Job Description:

The Animal Biosecurity Branch develops biosecurity policy and provides technical and scientific advice for the safe importation of animals and animal products, including aquatic animals and their products, using science-based risk analysis. It also provides scientific and technical support to gain, maintain and improve access for the export of Australian animals and their genetic materials. The branch provides policy and technical advice on marine pest biosecurity. The branch comprises four sections: International Strategy and Technical Assurance; Avian, Biological, Companion Animals and Dairy; Livestock and Zoo Animals; and Marine and Aquatic Biosecurity.

Job Responsibilities:

• Support the branch in coordinating its organisational responsibilities including information and project management
• Contribute to the development and implementation of biosecurity policies and projects including utilising demonstrated technical or policy skills to support objectives
• Develop and support biosecurity, market access and corporate activities
• Build and maintain engagement with government, industry and international stakeholders
• Help draft briefs, other correspondence and a range of communications materials to support decision making and engagement
• Be part of an effective, dynamic team that works to identify efficiencies and deliver business improvements.

Qualification & Experience:

• Experience in developing and/or implementing programs and projects which support business objectives.
• Experience in working with a range of internal and external stakeholders including supporting communications, committees and other forums, either national or international.
• Demonstrated interest and relevant technical or policy experience in biosecurity, international trade or related field.
