Job Responsibilities:

  • Operate plant at the disposal site efficiently and in accordance with approved work practices, procedures, service levels and quality standards.
  •  Attend team meetings and training when advised.
  •  Maintain applicable paperwork relevant to the jobs being conducted.
  •  Seek out ways of improving performance of the team in association with other team members.
  •  Assist the Supervisor Waste Disposal to solve routine problems associated with waste disposal operations.
  •  Attend on-site after hours in cases of emergency when called.
  •  Assist in the measurement of team output and performance.
  •  Carry out other duties, such as collection of litter from private land around the disposal site.
  •  Carry out daily and weekly vehicle maintenance checks in accordance with written procedures and checklists.

Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge of waste products.
  • Knowledge of the City’s Safety Policies and documents and employee responsibilities regarding
    Occupational Safety and Health.
  • Knowledge of Safety and Health requirement relating to waste disposal.
  • Knowledge of licence conditions for the disposal site
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to direct and lead staff in daily operational tasks.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Sound time management skills.

Qualification & Experience:

  •  Experience in the safe operation and user-maintenance of landfill compactors.
  •  Experience in the safe operation and user-maintenance of water trucks.
  •  Experience in the safe operation and user-maintenance of hooklift trucks.
  •  Experience in the safe operation and user-maintenance of loaders.
  •  Experience in landfill and recycling facility operations.
  •  Possession of current certificate of competency to operate specialist plant.
  •  Possession of White Card (Safety Awareness Card).
  •  Possession of Current First Aid Certificate.
  •  Possession of Current C Class Drivers Licence.
  •  Possession of Current HR Class Drivers Licence.
  •  Possession of National Police Certificate.
  •  Experience in waste collection vehicles (side load in particular) is desirable.
  •  Experience in weighbridge operating systems is desirable
