Job Description:

Our Structures section, delivers a fully comprehensive inspection, maintenance and construction service for a large portfolio of Council’s assets. The list includes the five Cross River bridges, road as well as many cycle and pedestrian bridges, pontoons, jetties, boat ramps, sea and river walls, wharves, boardwalks, retaining walls amongst many other structural assets managed by Council.

Job Responsibilities:

• Complete detail on requisitions for parts and materials required for jobs
• Perform non-trade tasks incidental to any work being undertaken
• Undertake repair and maintenance of Council’s bridge assets
• Assist in the technical training of apprentices
• Complete tasks within time frames and estimated costs
• Liaise with contractors/suppliers to deliver cost effective and timely service
• Conduct various workshop activities including utilising computer based applications as required.

Job Requirements:

• Sound interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service, and including the ability to complete job related administrative tasks
• The ability to produce legible sketches and to work from workshop and engineering drawings and sketches.
• Experience in a wide range of welding skills and fabrication tasks and the repair and modification of a variety of plant, equipment and structures
• Demonstrated experience in site fabrication and erection methods
• The ability to design and fabricate jigging required for component manufacture
• The ability to work autonomously and in a team environment, including experience in providing guidance and support to apprentices.
