Job Description:

To deliver a high level of technical services to plan, design and implement the traffic, transport and parking network as part of the Works Team and the Infrastructure Services Directorate. To coordinate and provide technical support for the functions of the Local Traffic Committee in accordance with TfNSW guidelines.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop traffic, transport (including active transport) and car parking strategies and plans that aim to ensure the safe and efficient movement of people and goods throughout the Shire.
  • Manage and implement paid and unpaid parking schemes throughout the shire.
  • Management of contracts for pay parking system, meters and cash collection
  • Coordinate and provide expert traffic and transport advice to multidisciplinary teams and relevant Council Advisory Committees.
  • Provide technical and administrative support to the Byron Shire Local Traffic Committee.
  • Implement the resolutions of Council resulting from the adoption of Local Traffic Committee recommendations in a timely manner.
  • Use professional judgement, advise on a range of Federal and State government legislation, policies and regulations that apply to traffic and transport within the Byron Shire.
  • Develop and maintain a system for carrying out Road Safety Audits along lengths of roads and localities as required.
  • Maintain Crash Data for each quarter as the information is received from the Roads and Maritime Services.
  • Coordinate and arrange the carrying out of traffic counts including Classifier Counts, Axle
    Counts and Pedestrian Counts, as the circumstances require

Qualification & Experience:

  • Experience in traffic engineering, road safety, transport and carpark planning and the provision and maintenance of public infrastructure.
  • Experience with pay parking schemes.
  • Experience in carrying out Road Safety Audits.
  • Experience in dealing with government authorities, particularly the TfNSW (or state equivalent), in dealing with the inter-relationships between
  • Roads Authorities, developing plans, seeking and expenditure of grants, sharing of information and dealing with matters before the Local Traffic Committee.
  • Experience in the use of Metro Count Classifiers.
  • Experience in project planning, budgeting, cost management and forecasting.
