Job Description:
The incumbent of this position serves as a senior accountant, utilizing a professional knowledge of accounting principles and procedures in carrying out complex assignments in one or more HHS program or administrative functional area.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide expert advice to line program managers, accounting managers, and officials in specialized areas of accounting, resolving problems, and developing policies, as needed.
- Analyze, review, and identify accounting problem areas, and developing solutions to improve operating program effectiveness.
- Provide advice to financial and program managers and other accountants on unusual and difficult accounting systems and/or operations problems.
- Review new or pending legislation and regulations and then develops draft regulations and guidelines that outline the requirements for accounting and line program users.
- Conduct financial analyses, audits, and/or investigations of major foreign and/or domestic businesses for reviews, analyzes, and validates industry financial data.
- Prepare new system documentation, conducts accounting system testing, and addresses problems that arise in the final implementation of new or revised accounting systems that support program(s).
Job Requirements:
- US Citizenship is required.
- One-year probationary period may be required.
- Background Investigation is required.
- All Federal employees are required to have Federal salary payments made by direct deposit to a financial institution of their choosing.
Qualification & Experience:
- Have a degree in accounting; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting.
