CHP Application – Office Assistant (Typing)

Job Description:

Under the general supervision of both the OSS-I and OSS-II, the Office Assistant, Typing, is responsible for processing a portion of tickets (CHP 215, Notice to Appear Citations) including review, data entry, and filing.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Post, process, and serve trial by declaration requests via shift supervisors.
  • Forward completed Trial by Declaration to the court officer(s) when completed by the officer(s).
  • Contact the courts to notify of an officers absence or tardiness.
  • Forward subpoenas to the areas of transferred offices.
  • Process and log civil and criminal subpoenas.
  • Process Pitches Motion, Brady, Garcia, Vela, and MVARS requests.
  • Report of court appearances to subpoenas when necessary, provide subpoenas to the on-duty supervisor for distribution in briefings on a daily basis.
  • Process all disclosure statements.
  • Call the District Attorney’s office on all duplicate subpoenas and advise which officer(s) that are necessary. A response to the message is also to be  requested.
  • Process CHP 90’s, collect witness and Mobile Video Audio Reporting System (MVARS) fees for subpoenaed officers.
  • Separate subpoenas by shifts and place in the shift baskets to be served to the officers by the shift Sergeants.
  • Copy reports required to be attached to subpoenas, attach form CHP 90.
  • Mark master-schedules in red felt pen with a “C” on it for the subpoena officer.
  • Provide backup to other desks as needed.

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to type at a speed of not less than 40 words per minute from ordinary manuscript or printed or typewritten material.

Qualification & Experience:

  • One year of experience in California state service performing the duties of an Assistant Clerk.
