Job Description:

We have an opportunity for a team orientated and committed individual to join our supportive environment on a part-time basis.
As the Pay Officer your enthusiasm and flexibility will be valued as you provide efficient and effective support to the Supervisor Payroll. You must be able to interpret and apply Awards and industrial agreements, as they relate to payroll and communicate with and provide advice to a diverse range of staff, ensuring all employees are paid accurately and on time.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Comply with the City’s Equal Opportunity, Discrimination, Harassment and Bullying Policies at all times.
  • Follow and comply with all Occupational Safety and Health and Environment policies and procedures to ensure personal safety and the safety of others is maintained at all times, including he reporting of unsafe practices or hazards to supervisors or OSH Representatives, whilst protecting the environment and ensuring prevention of pollution.
  • Actively seek and report on methods of improving systems of work, policies and practices, to ensure the continuous improvement of the City’s Business Management System
  • Assist the Supervisor Payroll with the administration of the computerised HR/Payroll system (Aurion), including upgrades, testing, modifications, troubleshooting and maintenance as required.
  • Ensure payslips and pay summaries are reconciled and issued within designated time frames.
  • Prepare and process payments to payroll creditors within the required time frame.
  • Ensure employee pay records and details are kept in accordance with Award, Agreements and legislative requirements.
  • Undertake all the necessary calculations and paperwork for employee commencements and terminations.
  • Assist the Supervisor Payroll in providing statistical information and reports both internally and externally as required.
  • Maintain and provide accurate information for the Australian Taxation Office in accordance with requirements.
  • Provide administrative and clerical support including basic letter writing and research for the Supervisor Payroll as required.
  • Exercise appropriate authority whilst acting in the best interests of the City, its customers and the community, meeting legislative and operational requirements.

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to apply attention to detail and complete tasks with a high level of accuracy.
  • Well developed interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills with the ability to communicate with a wide range of people to ensure delivery of a high level of customer service.
  • Ability to interpret and apply Awards and industrial agreements as they relate to payroll.
  • Highly developed organisational and administrative skills with proven ability to effectively prioritise multiple tasks to meet strict deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, both as a team member and individually with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and good judgement when required.
  • Proven ability to apply the appropriate level of discretion and confidentiality to the role.
  • Ability to use the Microsoft Office suite of products (including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and experience in using a computerised payroll system.
  • Good written communication skills including the ability to undertake basic research tasks.
