Job Description:

As the Coordinator for Health Equity and Planning, you will report directly to the Manager Healthy Communities and will be responsible for the delivery of the Health Equity and Planning Unit. Your primary focus will be to progress a range of projects and strategies that contribute to the overall health and wellbeing of the Geelong community.

You will be responsible for Municipal Health and Wellbeing Plan (MPWHP) development, implementation and review to achieve equitable health outcomes given the impact of place, life stage, gender, disability, multicultural and Aboriginal experiences.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Taking a coordination role in the planning and evaluation of health and wellbeing strategic activities such as our Community Plan incorporating the Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing plan.  Positive Ageing StrategyEvaluation and health impacts and other health promotion activities.
  • Coordinating the Health Equity and Planning Unit to deliver a range of preventive health initiatives that respond to Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan priorities.
  • Partnering to initiate and coordinate community level prevention actions that address the determinants of health and result in health equity given health differentials arising from place, life stage, gender, disability, multicultural and Aboriginal experiences.
  • Increasing the health literacy of the community so individuals gain access to, understand and use information in ways which promote and maintain good health.
  • Supporting and promoting evidence-based practice and evaluation.
  • Establishing annual budgets, as well as monitoring and reporting according to agreed protocols.

Job Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications in the Social Sciences, Community Development, Health or a related field, and several years’ experience in public health, health promotion, community development or related field, or undergraduate degree with extensive experience in any of these areas.
  • Current employee Working with Children check.
  • Knowledge of public health policy, population health and health promotion practice within local government settings.
  • Evidence of participation in effective partnerships both within and across organisations to achieve systemic health and health equity outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and supervision to staff, volunteers and community members in the implementation of health prevention and health literacy initiatives.
  • Knowledge of effective health literacy interventions that promote and maintain good health.
