Job Description:

The post of Crime Scene Investigator in Cyber & Digital Forensics (C&DF), within DSI, plays an integral role in Her Majesty’s Government’s fight against serious and organised crime, supporting investigations totalling hundreds of millions of pounds each year. The candidate will assist FIS Investigation Officers in delivering all aspects of forensic support in order to develop intelligence in the proactive environment and securing forensic evidence in reactive operational activity.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Undertake forensic training of HMRC investigators
  • Attend crime scenes to identify, preserve, record and recover forensic evidence
  • Identify and promote opportunities for forensic intervention within HMRC investigations
  • Identify and maximise forensic intelligence opportunities to support HMRC objectives
  • Undertake Crime Scene Photography and provide guidance to HMRC investigators in this subject area
  • Review departmental forensic processes and procedures to identify and implement best practice

Job Requirements:

  • Experience of Fraud Investigation
  • Completion of an accredited, post academic Crime Scene Management/Crime Scene Coordination Course from a Law Enforcement Agency or recognised professional training provider, and experience in that role
  • Knowledge and/or experience of criminal justice procedures including CPIA, PACE and RIPA/IPA
  • Security Check (SC) or higher vetting level
  • Experience of applying forensic techniques and methodologies in a covert environment
