Job Description:
In order to be successful in this role you will have significant experience of leading, or working in, a financial reporting team or leading audits on the Annual Report and Accounts. You will be able to present complex financial information to suit the requirements of a diverse set of readers. You will also need to be an excellent manager with the ability to drive delivery both within your team and through others.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead on cash forecasting and ensure performance targets are met
- Provide expert financial advice to finance and policy staff consistent with Managing Public Money, the FReM and current accounting standards. Share knowledge through delivering Lunch and Learn sessions, periodic refresher training etc
- Seek continuous improvement in the automation of tasks and embed process change
- Co-ordinate the year-end process using project management techniques (creating a project plan and managing activities against this; actively managing delivery risks and issues). Anticipate potential issues and ensure there are suitable mitigations
- Work with teams across the Department to ensure that the Annual Report is fair in reflecting the Home Office’s achievements and the strength of its controls
- Lead the team of c25 FTE including delivering a People Plan to respond to the People Survey and other development areas for the team
- Oversee the external audit by the National Audit Office (NAO) and work with internal audit
- Contribute to the Government Finance Function and other cross-government initiatives concerning Financial Reporting
- Ensure that the asset register and GL are properly reconciled. Ensure second level assurance controls over reconciliations are documented, sound and followed up where necessary
- Ensure that robust Depreciation forecast are produced and correctly reported
- Deliver the Annual Report and Accounts and the Trust Statement, as well as the interim accounts
- Work with the Audit and Risk Assurance Committee to provide updates, raise issues and mitigating actions
- Manage the Home Office balance sheet, including ensuring that the Department’s non-current assets are actively managed, and correctly accounted. Run the annual asset verification and impairment assessment exercise
