Job Description:

The Military Cyber Effects Project Lead will plan, manage and undertake research and development projects concerning cyberwarfare, with a focus on science and technologies which confer military advantage through the generation of cyber effects and the projection of force through cyberspace. This is a key role in the coordination and delivery of cyberwarfare innovation to the ADF and broader Defence initiatives.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Plan, manage, undertake and deliver relevant cyberwarfare research and development project tasking.
  • Build relationships and partnerships with the national and international information warfare community, including universities, industry and government, to assist with the delivery of research to Defence projects.
  • Marshal the transition of innovative science and technology through to ADF capability, including via production of concept demonstrators, trials and field tests, and commercialisation.
  • Coordinate and develop project teams to cultivate a highly productive and respectful workplace culture, promoting a shared sense of purpose and a commitment to science excellence.
  • Work with Defence and intelligence community stakeholders to understand and help shape their science and technology project requirements with respect to cyber effects, and devise and negotiate science and technology plans which deliver against those needs.
  • Personally conduct and contribute high quality research in relevant topics, such as software defect and vulnerability characterization and exploitation, advanced approaches to rapid software development (including automation), complex systems, embedded systems development, cyber systems security analysis, software and protocol reverse engineering, algorithm development, construction of prototype systems, and judicious application of machine learning approaches to the foregoing.

Job Requirements:

  • Proven ability to conduct and contribute high quality research in a relevant field, such as software defect and vulnerability characterisation; complexity exploitation; embedded systems; software and protocol reverse engineering; automation of reverse engineering; field testing and prototype experimentation; research supporting accelerated software engineering/prototyping; and applicable topics in ML and general cyber security
  • Well-developed liaison, negotiation and communication skills, and an ability to inspire, understand and empathise with military stakeholders and their requirements
  • An understanding of the complexity and inherent susceptibilities of current military cyber technologies
  • Ability to think conceptually, to structure, analyse and solve complex problems through sound research and engineering practices
  • A track record of leading and delivering research and development projects in a relevant role
  • The ability to successfully administer and provision science and technology advice for large-scale Defence initiatives and projects
  • The ability to work both as a member of a team and individually
