Job Description:

The Detection Capability and Emerging Technology Section work to deliver a more seamless border experience by optimising our ability to detect biosecurity risks across the traveller, mail, and cargo pathways. Detection Capability develops and trials new detection systems to optimise the effectiveness of border screening, including through the development and management of the detector dog program and x-ray capability.

Job Responsibilities:

• Delivering detector dog and handler training
• Conducting business assurance activities to ensure performance expectations are delivered
• Collaborating with and supporting a nationally dispersed workforce to ensure ongoing detector dog team performance
• Contributing to the ongoing development and innovation of the department’s detector dog capability
• Performing a broad range of administrative functions related to the work of the detector dog technical team
• Communicating effectively with both internal and external stakeholders
• Maintaining records in accordance with legislative requirements and the department’s records management, information security and privacy policies and requirements.

Job Requirements:

• The ability to manage and support change.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver training to canine substance detection teams.
• Outstanding stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to engage remotely and in person.
• A demonstrated commitment to the development and success of others.
• The ability to work effectively as a member of a small team, as well as independently under broad direction, while delivering high quality outputs.
• Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.
