Job Description: As a member of the Division’s executive team, the Deputy Fire Chief will be responsible for assisting in providing leadership, direction, and overall management for the Fire Rescue Division. The Deputy Fire Chief must be able to develop and maintain effective relationships with other agencies within the community, members of the International Association of Firefighters as well as, have excellent communication skills with all stakeholders to achieve the high standards the community has come to expect. Job Responsibilities: Administers budget in accordance with established policies and procedures. Directs the preparation and analysis of records and reports to secure efficient operations and to meet Fire Rescue demands. Administers suitable training and discipline. Coordinates Fire Rescue matters with various team leaders. May assume command of Fire Rescue in the absence of the Fire Rescue Director as the Director/Command Officer of Special Risk member(s) whose duties include on-the-scene fighting of fires, fire prevention and fire training. Plans, organizes and directs specific fire and rescue operations with respect to equipment, apparatus, and personnel. Develops long range fire protection and suppression programs. Assists in preparation of Fire Rescue’s annual budget and long range capital budget. Job Requirements: Able to work in government hierarchy and chain of command. Ability to prepare budget submittals. Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, orally and in writing. Ability to work closely with the Fire Chief and Fire Rescue Division staff in general. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, associates, officials and the general public. Ability to plan, evaluate, assign and coordinate activities performed by Fire Rescue units. Ability to understand the County's budget process, purchasing, fund structures, and budget development process. Qualification & Experience: A Bachelor degree in Fire Science, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of paid full time experience in a management or supervisory capacity at the Volusia County Fire Division Officer level or higher.
