Job Description:
The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) promulgates and enforces rail safety regulations; consolidates government support of rail transportation activities; administers financial assistance programs; conducts research and development in support of improved railroad safety and efficiency, and national transportation policy, including improved intercity passenger service.
Job Responsibilities:
- Produces detailed reports of accidents, complaints, violations, and investigations, including all information necessary for the proper and expeditious processing of such investigations.
- Performs Roadway Worker Program (RWP) checks and audits on railroad workers that are engaged in on-track activities. This includes Roadway Maintenance Machines (RMM) and hi-rail equipment with or without cranes.
- Prepares daily inspections reports of identified defects, violation reports when necessary, and collects sufficient back-up evidence to support agency attorneys in matters of prosecution.
- Responsible for the improvement and advancement of railroad safety in areas related to track construction, track maintenance, repair activities, and employee safety.
- Responsible to assess railroad compliance with the carrier’s track inspection process to support compliance with federal regulations related
to 49 CFR Part 213 and Part 214. - Conducts follow-up inspections using the information produced from ATIP reports to detect, locate and evaluate deviations and defects for gage, profile and cross-level in the track structure.
Job Requirements:
- If selected, you will be required to pass a Drug Test prior to appointment unless you are presently employed in a DOT position that requires drug testing. You also will be subject to random drug testing while employed in this safety-sensitive position.
- If selected, you will be required to possess and maintain a valid State driver’s license at all times while employed by the FRA in order to perform the duties of the position.
- The position requires extensive travel.
