Job Description:

An opportunity exists for a Senior Development Compliance Officer (Building) within the Building team. The position will provide high level technical and administrative support to the section, by assisting in monitoring Development Compliance Section workflows, and investigation of allegations, disputes and customer requests in relation to compliance with the legislative requirements and regulations of the Planning Act, Building Act, Building Code of Australia, the City Plan and Local Law 17

Job Responsibilities:

  • Review of complex legislation, development approvals and plans as required
  • Carry out and document site inspections and complex investigations
  • Prepare file notes/ inspection reports, correspondence, notices and letters, in accordance with Development Compliance processes
  • Carry out complex enforcement action and manage the demands of the position, customers and high workload while maintaining a high level of customer service and professionalism
  • Provide mentoring, coaching and support to staff in all technical, decision making and customer service aspects
  • Communicates well expressing complex ideas concisely and confirms understanding. Actively listens and encourages contribution. Writes fluently and persuasively in a range of styles and formats to optimise outcomes.
  • Provide backup to supervisory role when necessary
  • Other reasonable requests from supervisor or management

Job Requirements:

  • Excellent knowledge of the Planning Act, Building Act, Building Code of Australia and the City Plan
  • Excellent level of workload priority and management due to the number of investigations
  • Drivers Licence Class C Unrestricted and a WHS Licence General Construction (White Card)
  • Has the ability to identify suitable benchmarks to establish logical conclusions and support recommendations
  • Conducts thorough examination of internal and external information to determine if statutory, regulatory and organisational systems, processes and obligations have been met. Makes recommendations to address risk and improve performance
  • Considers the entire customer experience when engaging with internal and external clients
  • Ensures client needs and wants are understood and wherever possible are met. Uses client feedback to make recommendations to improve customer experience
  • Collects professional and technical information and facts from internal and external sources to build knowledge and draw conclusions. Uses this knowledge to provide advice and guidance to key stakeholders and drive continuous improvement
  • Builds relationships with people that may be affected by organisational decisions or actions and influences those people by providing professional or technical advice and guidance that is evidence based, to ensure organisational outcomes are achieved.
