Job Description:

Located in the Lifestyle and Community Directorate, the Parks and Recreational Services Branch plans and manages a diverse network of high-quality parks, conservation areas, open spaces and recreational facilities; develops and implements programs for outdoor social and physical activities; protects and improves the city’s biodiversity, and contributes to city walk ability, cooling and beautification through a comprehensive greening program. The Branch also oversees an extensive natural areas management program aimed at protecting the Gold Coast’s high conservation areas through a diverse range of strategies including enlisting the community’s support in the ongoing preservation, understanding and enjoyment of these important areas

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide expertise in the evaluation of complex project situations and identify viable solutions in consultation with key stakeholders.
    Contribute to the establishment and review of data that provides clear direction of acceptable standards/condition of assets ensuring best practice is achieved where possible.
  • Lead and influence multi-functional projects and project teams.
  • Develop and maintain open and transparent working relationships and effective communication between Recreational Services and internal/external customers.
  • Deliver desired outcomes to assigned projects in accordance with legislative requirements, Council policies and procedures, and corporate goals and objectives.
  • Attend public community events or meetings outside of normal work hours
  • Ensure projects and services comply with relevant policies including Right to Information, Privacy, Environmental and WH&S.
  • Delegate projects and related tasks to subordinate staff and ensure that they are adequately supported and mentored to develop improved skills and more effectively deliver professionally managed projects and services.
  • Establish and maintain effective information systems and associated reports, files and other documentation.
  • Prepare budget submissions and financial reports for Recreational Services within the Branch.
    Identify organisational needs relevant to the work area and develop strategic responses to those needs.

Job Requirements:

  • Current ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence. (Mandatory)
  • Advanced interpersonal and communication skills with particular emphasis in the areas of consultation, negotiation, influencing, conflict resolution and assertiveness.
  • Well developed analytical, problem solving and investigative skills with the ability to initiate, formulate, implement, monitor and evaluate new strategies, policies, procedures, services, programs, techniques, methodologies and guidelines that will deliver desired recreational outcomes for Council.
  • Excellent time management skills with ability to organise self and others for timely completion of tasks.
  • Identify risks associated with Recreational Services activities and/or areas of responsibility and develop mitigation strategies in consultation with Management, ensuring the emerging trends and issues are identified and reported with appropriate recommendations.
  • Supervisory experience with ability to develop and motivate staff, provide advice and establish and monitor performance.
  • Ability to handle matters of a confidential nature, incorporating a high degree of judgement and initiative.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications in sport or recreation or demonstrated equivalent experience appropriate to the role. (Mandatory)
  • Sound experience in project management activities with the ability to develop, administer, manage and evaluate projects, programs, services and resources.
  • Experience in the investigation and preparation of reports, presentations and correspondence with clear recommendations.
  • Experience in leading and being part of multi-disciplinary project teams.
