Job Description:

The green and built assets you maintain and enhance, support the conservation of the City’s natural areas which underpin the Gold Coast’s enviable lifestyle. The role is responsible for the prioritisation, scoping, project management and delivery of all operational and capital projects relating to the Unit’s natural area teams. The position manages significant budgets and a large and diverse team of professional and technical staff. In addition, the position is responsible for the development and management of multi-year service contracts to help ensure NAMU’s conservation land management exceeds corporate standards and benchmarks.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage NAMU’s operational and capital budgets and meet/comply with corporate governance timeframes and procedures.
  • Prioritise, scope, deliver and monitor NAMU’s capital projects to enhance delivery of nature based recreation opportunities, maintain biodiversity values and help mitigate natural hazards such as bushfire, slope stability, overland flow and instream erosion.
  • Develop multi-year services contracts (for eg. trail maintenance, vegetation management etc) to ensure NAMU achieves its key deliverables as defined by the PR&S Business Plan, the City’s Operational Plan, Our Natural City Strategy and other key corporate strategies and plans.
  • Help deliver NAMU’s portfolio of planning and operational projects including leading some of the nation’s largest, high biodiversity value, ecological restoration projects.
  • Continue to grow and sustain a dynamic, motivated team that feel encouraged and supported in their day to day conservation land management work.
  • Help maintain and enhance the Unit’s WHS management system and ensure that staff work safely in remote areas
  • Perform the role of CCR as required for the above services contracts.
  • Guide the day to day operation of the City’s natural areas whilst achieving long term conservation land management goals.
  • Ensure the development of Asset Management Plans which are integrated with the Branch’s overarching plan.
  • Help lead the delivery of NAMU’s priority actions arising from Our Natural City Strategy and adopted Conservation Reserve Plans of
  • Management for the City’s natural areas estate, and monitor programs to inform adaptive management.

Job Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to lead large and diverse teams and support staff to help ensure that they achieve their goals and gain a sense of accomplishment each day. You will have demonstrated expertise in budget formulation and management, project management and contract development and supervision. In addition, you will possess proven financial and business management skills and enjoy the fact that your business skills will make a positive impact on the successful delivery of NAMU’s key conservation activities. We require a team player with strong analytical and problem-solving skills as well as exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
