You will provide legal services in relation to all aspects of the powers, duties and functions of the Council. You will be committed to the overarching obligations as an officer of the Court and to the integrity of the law and its conduct, which are fundamental and will not be compromised.
Our ideal candidate will be a confident communicator and comfortable managing multiple matters at any one time. Providing expert advice to manage and minimise risk (both financial and reputational) in relation to decisions and implementation of Council’s strategies will be fundamental to your success
Job Requirements:
- proven ability to provide clear, specialist, expert and strategic legal advice on complex and sensitive matters and conduct/manage legal proceedings on behalf of Council in courts and tribunals
- high level writing and verbal communication and computer literacy skills with an ability to communicate in plain clear language
- proven interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, particularly in the provision of expert, accurate, confidential and sensitive advice and support to the Council and corporate management
- demonstrated ability to manage and participate in projects relating to the development, implementation and review of major organisational legal issues and initiatives
- demonstrated ability to use a positive and proactive approach to problem solving, and to work to multiple and demanding timelines
- a high level of initiative and independence and the ability to establish own priorities and work with limited direction in a fast paced/high volume area
- proven ability to work in a team environment
Qualification & Experience:
- Have 5 years + post administration experience (preferably with experience relevant to a Local Government is highly desireable)
- proven experience in legal practice relevant to compliance, statutory interpretation, enforcement, property, planning, contract, IP and other areas of law relevant to local government
