Job Description: Strategic Communications works across the organisation to proactively promote content that is relevant and aligned to CoM’s priorities through internal and external channels. The branch is also ready to anticipate, respond to, and manage critical issues which impact the reputation of the organisation.The Advisor, City Communications role is an exciting opportunity to work across a broad range of key policy areas, including City Strategy, Climate Change and Resilience, Parks and City Greening and Planning and Building. Working to support the manager, this role works alongside the media, internal communications, and digital teams, to ensure a cross-functional approach. Responsibilities include managing, planning, and delivering communications activities for emerging priorities, as well as complex Council projects and initiatives. Working collaboratively within the branch to ensure the delivery of relevant, accurate and timely communications planning and advice to a high standard across diverse audience groups Job Requirements: A risk radar with the ability to recognise potential issues and flag them in a timely manner. An ability to think creatively and to take initiative. Sound ability to develop effective working relationships, deliver presentations, and represent the organisation among stakeholders. Ability to demonstrate and display City of Melbourne values – accountability, integrity, courage, respect for self and others, and striving for excellence. Excellent written and verbal communications skills, including the ability to write clearly and concisely for specific audiences and channels, often in a tight timeframe. Ability to function effectively in a complex and demanding environment, and to effectively manage busy workloads, tight timelines, and significant and diverse relationships. Proven ability to collaborate and work in a team environment, while demonstrating emotional intelligence and judgement. Qualification & Experience: Experience in a similar role developing and delivering proactive and reactive communications activities, in a complex environment involving multiple stakeholders.
