Job Description:

This Lead Aerospace Engineer (Lead AST, Aerospace Design and Mission Analysis) position is located in the Guidance, Navigation and Mission Analysis Branch (EV42). Individual will serve as Team Lead of the Mission Analysis and Design Team with responsibility for leading the design and analysis of launch vehicle and spacecraft trajectories and coaching team members in the processes and methods applicable to the design of aerospace vehicles.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Leads engineers in the area of aerospace vehicle design and mission analysis to support customers (i.e. developing designs, models, simulations and conducting analyses of aerospace vehicle systems, their components and subsystems interactions).
  • Leads trades and sensitivities studies on aerospace vehicles evaluating dynamic characteristics, flight envelope and/or system and subsystem interactions to determine optimal vehicle configuration and performance.
  • Directs design and data analyses of aerospace simulation trajectories to meet mission requirements and evaluate vehicle performance for nominal and off-nominal operations, including the effects of sensor errors and failures.
  • Communicates team assignments, projects, problems to be solved, actionable events, milestones, and/or program issues under review, and deadlines and time frames for completion.
  • Directs the development of three-degree-of-freedom vehicle system simulations to include math models of vehicle systems/subsystems, environmental inputs, structural/propulsive dynamics, optimization schemes, and numerical integration methods.

Job Requirements:

  • You must have successfully completed a bachelor’s or graduate degree with a major in either a) engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs or b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science, Computer Science*, or other field of physical science.

Qualification & Experience:

  • To qualify at the GS-14 level, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level in generating optimized aerospace vehicle trajectories, conducting trajectory analysis of launch vehicle and/or spacecraft systems.
