Job Description:

You will serve as the OSMA Deputy Advisor for the Science Mission Directorate (SMD) assigned to the Missions and Programs Assessment Division of the Office of Safety and Mission Assurance (OSMA).

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responds to stakeholder actions from Congress, the Aerospace Safety Advisory Panel, the NASA Advisory Council, and the Inspector General; oversees and coordinates audit/review activities done by the NASA OIG and the NASA Safety Center.
  • Participates in Directorate Program Management Councils, Flight Program Reviews, Center level program and project reviews, science mission Safety and Mission Success Reviews.
  • Supports development of meeting content and special topics to effectively prepare the NASA SMA Chief and NASA Chief Engineer to give the approval to proceed with launch operations.
  • Supports the OSMA Senior Advisor for SMD in oversight of SMA activities to ensure the safety, quality, reliability, risk management, and mission success of SMD programs, projects, technology demonstrations, and research efforts.
  • Represents the official OSMA position and supports SMD senior leadership and Program Executives in all SMA-related matters affecting the NASA Science portfolio.
  • Reviews, edits, concurs on program/project plans, NPR/NPD revisions, Orbital Debris Assessment Reports, End of Mission Plans, Mishap Planning and Contingency Plans, and Planetary Protection Requirements.

Job Requirements:

  • You must have successfully completed a bachelor’s or graduate degree with a major in either a) engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs or b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science, Computer Science*, or other field of physical science.

Qualification & Experience:

  • To qualify for GS-15, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level evaluating and advising on Safety and Mission Assurance aspects of programs/projects including review of presentations, program/project plans, and policy requirements.
