Job Description:

You will serve as Deputy Superintendent of Independence National Historical Park (INDE). You will also be responsible for the management for three satellite parks; Edgar Allan Poe NHS, Thaddeus Koscluszko NM, and Gloria Del (Olde Swedes) Church NHS and collaborative responsibility for Benjamin Franklin NM.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Supports programs related to the training and advancement of employees.
  • Actively supports the Equal Opportunity Program In day-to-day decisions.
  • Identifies problems and issues, explores, and recommends alternatives, negotiates conflicts and formulates solutions and agreements.
  • Establishes and maintains effective, cooperative relationships with various special interest groups, federal and state legislators and executives, political leaders from the eight counties adjacent to the park, several planning commissions, neighboring community, and organizational leaders.
  • Responsible for decisions and priorities in the allocation of park’s multi-million-dollar operations budget and funds from other sources such as cyclic programs.
  • Assists the Superintendent with the full range of planning, directing, and organizing development and program controls for the entire park; and for addressing critical management problems and issues, determining objectives, and developing and directing long range planning efforts.
  • Represents the Superintendent on a regular basis with Federal, State, regional and local officials, public and private organizations, news media, and the public to educate and gain acceptance of policies and programs.
  • Ensures fair and non-discriminatory employment practices in the recruitment and selection of candidates.
  • Responsible for on-the-job safety and health of all employees. Ensures that an effective Park-wide safety program is in place and operational to include Park and concession employees and visitors
  • Assists with carrying out an active public relations/information program to effectively promote the mission, goals and programs of the park and Service. This is accomplished through active media information programs including radio, television, print media, personal appearances, and correspondence.
  • Represents the Superintendent in public contacts and negotiations with representatives of the National Park Service, other Department of the Interior bureaus, other
  • Federal agencies, Park partners, other organizations, and private individuals.

Job Requirements:

  • You may be required to some weekends and holidays.
  • If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
  • You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 1 night per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
