Job Description:

The Chief Engineer business unit is experiencing exponential growth and health. Safety and environmental management must be governed in-line with this growth to ensure employee welfare and legal compliance. Within the Chief Engineer’s team, you will be responsible for representing Chief Engineer at pan Openreach health, safety and environment meetings and ensuring that Chief Engineer regional operational teams are provided with support in line with Openreach policy and current legislation.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance to aid delivery against performance dashboard and KPIs.
  • Act as advisor to all Chief Engineer teams on all matters of safety, and environment.
  • Leading and managing partners and suppliers to drive safe working collaboration and best practice.
  • Accountable for delivering large scale CDM 2015 construction projects in Chief Engineer. Working with planning and field to ensure compliance.
  • Implement and maintain a true safety culture within Chief Engineer and its supporting partners, driving performance and quality improvements.
  • Create safety plans to reduce injuries and incidents, set safety targets, provide welfare for workers and increase incident reporting across all Chief Engineer teams.
  • Drive incident reduction and incident investigation for all of Chief Engineer.
  • Ensuring Openreach remains within legal compliance for all safety legislation for all construction work completed by Chief Engineer including Civil Engineering.
  • Act as environmental lead for the Chief Engineer team including Civil Engineering

Job Requirements:

  • Hold Nebosh Construction or General Certificate
  • Work collaboratively with auditors, external companies and Government agencies, including HSE and Environmental Agency, to find solutions to connecting rural homes and businesses with minimum impact to environment and best safe working practice.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding utility networks.
  • Experience in creation and delivery of safety and environmental plans for large operational departments.
  • Strong experience in risk assessment and provision of safe systems of work.
  • An expert in their field with experience of and credibility in engaging with a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Technically competent in understanding construction methods, work equipment and tools.
  • Successful proven experience in management of safety in large scale CDM 2015 notified projects.
  • Experience of mitigating risks, implanting best practice and following strict governance procedures
  • Strong understanding of Health and Safety Legislation used in Construction Industry.
  • Experience of dealing with incident investigations and reporting to senior stakeholders up to and including CEO.
  • Expert in New Roads and Street Works Act 1991.
