Job Description:
The position is located in the Sports Diplomacy Division (ECA/PE/C/SU), Office of Citizen Exchanges (ECA/PE/C), Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), Department of State (DoS). The incumbent will act as one of DoS’s key senior experts on sports and sports diplomacy and provides expertise and leads strategy formulation, development and implementation for sports diplomacy at the Department of State.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develops and maintains public/private partnerships with sports leagues (e.g., the NBA, MLB, the NFL, etc.), the United States Olympic Committee, and major sports diplomacy federations that reach a global audience
- Organizes and participates in outreach activities, including major sports exchange events throughout the year involving high-level government officials and members of Congress.
- Oversees the conceptualization, execution, and monitoring of grants and cooperative agreements to non-governmental, non-profit institutions and organizations to carry out exchange program goals.
- Provides oversight of many programs and sports diplomacy initiatives, including Sports Envoys, Sports Visitors, the Programming Initiative, the Global Sports Mentoring Programs to empower women and to promote inclusion for people with disabilities.
Job Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Incumbent will be subject to random drug testing.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- New supervisors must successfully complete a 1 year probationary period.
- One year probationary period, unless excepted by regulation.
- This is a supervisory position.
Qualification & Experience:
- Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level in the Federal service which provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position.
