Job Description:

Council’s legal services team is seeking a solicitor to provide legal representation and advice to council and its committees, managers and staff on planning and environment law in a mix of litigation and advisory work. In addition, you will have the ability to take conduct of a broad range of matters. In an average week you will probably:

Job Responsibilities:

• Draft and review a broad range of various commercial documents and advise on contractual disputes including infrastructure agreements and other related documents.
• Advise on a diverse range of legal issues relating to Local Government.
• Represent Council in the Planning and Environment (P&E) Court, including appearing at without prejudice discussions and mediations and in court.
• Represent Council in various dispute matters either directly or through external representatives.
• Advise council and staff on planning legislation, various legal proceedings, employment matters, and a broad range of legal issues.

Job Requirements:

• You will hit the ground running in this role and possess high level written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, and excellence in delivery of legal service including tact, integrity, and discretion.
• As a requirement of this position, you must hold a current Legal Practising Certificate pursuant to the Queensland Law Society Act and a current ‘C’ class Drivers Licence.
• An expert in the application of law, you will have admission as solicitor of Supreme Court of Queensland with relevant post admission experience.
• You will have demonstrated technical ability and experience in dispute resolution and in particular the Planning and Environment Court, the provision of legal advice in negotiating disputes and drafting Infrastructure Agreements, contracts and other commercial documents.
