Job Description:

The Trainer / Assessor will be required to follow quality assurance and quality improvement procedures, supporting the ongoing development of Teaching, learning and assessment practices within LU Engineering Apprenticeship delivery. All delivery will be in alignment with internal requirements and processes, the standards set by awarding organisations, industry, LU policy, Ofsted, ESFA and other relevant regulatory bodies appropriate to the ‘Employer Provider’ status of the Apprentice Unit.

Job Responsibilities:

  • To deliver training and assessment using a range of methods within the Mechanical Engineering sector specialism / occupational area(s). This includes Performing Engineering Operations programmes
  • Contribute to the ongoing and overall quality assurance processes and improvements within London Underground’s apprenticeship delivery and comply with Internal Quality Assurance processes and improvements in line with Ofsted and awarding body requirements. (Applicants who hold an IQA qualification will be supported and encouraged to maintain their IQA competency and practice where appropriate and required).
  • Provide mentoring, coaching and support to learners, in order to achieve learning objectives and meet qualification requirements
  • Design and delivery of training and assessment activities using a range of methods including digital / virtual solutions where appropriate
  • Providing ongoing and constructive feedback to apprentices using appropriate methods to recognise achievements and also inform future learning objectives
  • To maintain and record own continuous professional development through ongoing training and industry updates, as well as legislative change in relation to apprenticeship standards and occupational competency requirements
  • Attend standardisation meetings in order to compare assessments decisions, share good practice and maintain consistent and high standards of assessment practices
  • Embedding of Maths and English to support the individual needs of apprentices throughout their programme
  • Thorough planning of training and assessment through the production of scheme of work, lesson plans and regular assessment plans, adapting them to the individual needs of apprentices
  • Work collaboratively with Apprentice Development Managers to monitor and support progress of learners
  • Use of One File e-portfolio system to fully track the planning and delivery of all relevant training and assessment processes
  • Tracking and analysing progress of learners in order to identify support requirements and apply appropriate interventions
  • Encourage and advise learners to support their ongoing personal and professional development and behaviours in line with Performance & Development directives and qualification standards
  • Provide additional support to delivery staff and apprentices on various schemes as required
  • Effectively manage a class of apprentices and deliver other required training and assessment in other areas of occupational competency as required

Job Requirements:

  • Team player able to act as a salesperson or ambassador of LU Apprentice Training at all times
  • Excellent planning and organisation skills
  • Maths and English skills appropriate and relevant to training and delivery requirements
  • Numerate and computer literate with MS office experience, especially Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Relevant and current qualification and occupational competence in Mechanical Engineering disciplines
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills (stakeholder engagement)
  • Self-motivated, target and results driven
  • Demonstrable competence in use of and ability to train others in the use of Workshop tools and equipment
  • Learner centred approach to problem solving and breaking down barriers to learning
  • Demonstrable successful expertise in identifying training needs expressed in terms of learning objectives
  • Good ICT skills and experience of e-portfolio systems
  • Must hold ACWE / A1 Assessor award (or equivalent) and have appropriate and current assessment experience
  • Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively with people at all levels, including apprentices, colleagues, various levels of management and other stakeholders, both internal and external to the organisation
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Teaching qualification – minimum of Level 5 (Cert Ed / DTLLS / PGCE)
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to people at all levels and adapt to the needs of particular groups or individuals as required
