Job Description:

The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), a part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), works in close partnership with farmers, ranchers, forest managers, non-governmental organizations, local and state governments, and other federal agencies to create and maintain healthy and productive working landscapes.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and interpret natural resource information (wetlands, vegetation, hydrography) and makes recommendation on findings for use by interdisciplinary planning teams and for individual resource professionals.
  • Integrates databases, applications, and software interfaces to meet resource management needs.
  • Serve as the technical expert on GIS applications and information support needs. Provide recommendations on changes to hardware, software, and accessories to meet NRCS needs.
  • Train personnel on application use, software systems (ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Online), and data management policies, practices, and procedures.

Job Requirements:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid state motor vehicle operator’s license for the type of vehicle(s) operated to perform the duties of this position.
  • You must be a US Citizen or US National.
  • Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
  • Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.

Qualification & Experience:

  • To qualify for the GS-12 level, you must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or higher in Federal service.
