Job Description:

As Senior Advisor Critical Minerals within MRAP, you will provide leadership across the Division, working closely with the critical minerals leaders and specialists in the Mineral Systems Branch and EFTF Program Management Office. You will support government colleagues in the Critical Minerals Facilitation Office and other external stakeholder groups, for example, Austrade and the Treasury. Within MRAP, you will support and mentor a team of professionals providing mineral resources advice and promotion services. You will contribute as a proactive member of the branch’s senior leadership team and provide a strategic level of specialist advice to the organisation, including the senior leadership team and the Executive.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead the provision of high-quality, authoritative and timely technical advice on critical minerals to support the Australian Government’s critical minerals policy agenda domestically and internationally.
  • Research, plan, implement, monitor and evaluate project or program initiatives that support critical minerals resources advice and promotion
  • Provide critical minerals leadership, working closely with the MRAP Director, to achieve a unified and cohesive critical minerals program at GA
  • Shape a strategic direction that supports the positive development of the critical minerals sector in Australia and influences the attraction of investment
  • Manage risk assessment and risk management activities for critical mineral resources advice and promotion programs
  • Lead the preparation of high-level technical publications and other professional reports on critical minerals or other future-facing commodities
  • Provide strategic specialist/ technical/ professional advice on specific issues around Australia’s critical mineral resources, economics, production and the development of the sector, including feasibility and precedential advice
  • Oversee and manage the use of service providers, including contractors and consultants
  • Liaise and engage with other internal or external professionals across the critical minerals supply chain (government and industry) to exchange views, seek advice and ensure positive outcomes
  • Represent and advocate the agency’s position in a professional or specialist context.

Job Requirements:

  • A highly developed capability to synthesise and apply scientific and/or geo-economic knowledge to the provision of advice on matters that require considerable interpretation and analysis.
  • Highly developed oral and written skills including the ability to translate complex scientific and technical information for a range of different audiences.
  • Expert knowledge of a range of critical mineral commodities, including an understanding of the strategic and economic factors affecting supply chain security for Australia and partner nations.
  • Strong ability to plan, monitor emerging issues and identify and mitigate their impact.
  • Ability to influence, negotiate and develop effective working relationships and networks across the agency, other jurisdictions and with external stakeholders, including foreign government partners.
